How to use ChatGPT for a job search
ChatGPT can speed up a job search by decoding job ads, tailoring your resume and cover letter, running practice interviews and drafting follow-up emails. It doesn't replace job sites for finding current openings, so use those for listings and ChatGPT for the writing and practice.

1. Figure out what to search for
Tell ChatGPT about your experience and what you enjoy, and ask for 10 job titles that fit, including ones you may not have heard of. Then search for those titles on job sites.
2. Decode a job ad
Paste a job ad and ask: "In plain English, what would I do day to day? What are the must-haves versus nice-to-haves? Any red flags?" This saves time on jobs that aren't a fit.
3. Tailor your resume and cover letter

4. Practice the interview
This is where ChatGPT shines. Use the prompt below and it will play the interviewer, ask one question at a time, and give feedback on your answers. 5. Write follow-ups and thank-you notes

6. Stay organized
Ask ChatGPT to make a simple table with columns for company, job title, date applied, contact and next step, then copy it into a spreadsheet.
A few cautions
Never share your Social Security number or bank details, even if a "recruiter" asks. That's a common scam. Read what not to type into AI. And check any salary figures or company facts ChatGPT gives you, because they may be out of date.
