What's on the free plan
Anthropic's pricing page lists these for Free: chat on the web, desktop and phone apps; searching the web; creating files; memory across conversations; voice mode; connecting some apps; and up to 5 Projects (folders that keep related chats and documents together).
Claude is especially good at writing that sounds human and at reading long documents carefully, which is why it's on our lists for tricky emails and summarizing PDFs.
How the limits work
There's no fixed message count. Anthropic says limits reset on a rolling five-hour window, and how far you get depends on how long and complex your chats are. Long documents and long conversations use your allowance faster.
Tip: when you finish one task, start a new chat for the next one. Short, focused chats stretch the free plan much further.
What Pro and Max cost
Claude Pro is $20 a month billed monthly, or $17 a month with a yearly plan ($200 paid up front). Anthropic says Pro gives at least 5x the usage of Free per five-hour session, plus unlimited Projects, more Claude models and a Research feature.
Max starts at $100 a month and is for people who use Claude all day. Beginners don't need it.
Free or paid?
